Big Boy Race

We could not have asked for a better day!

Starting @ 1PM across the southeast dock with expected winds @ 3-5. our 61st Big Boys Race ended up with improved eastward/southeastward winds returning to the HSA dock.

Our Commodore has exceeded his 40 hour work-week this week @ HSA by conducting our skipper's meeting, providing oversight from the safety boat, photography as per attached. Work-week??..................I forget you are a volunteer! WOW!!!! they say greeks are from the most ancient part of the world. If it is all GREEK TO YOU!!! We are all converting to Greekeism. By the way, thank you for getting the female crew back on track after an unsuccessful exit from the dock.

Our Secretary has gone way beyond dictation by jotting down details of the race, social networking and by just being that great guy we know him to be...ready to provide mentorshiip to everyone whether a member or not. We love you!

It was OUR BEST TURNOUT EVER with a total of 13 boats sailing along the 51 mark.....Jim's whiskers were buffed with delight and pride. Your tradition continues with great dignity and value. We owe this all to you!

Although the BBR is intended to the Big Boys.....it was great to see Capri's and 420s out there.........Remember.......Little boys do eventually do become Big Boys.....................we encourage youth to come and join the FUN!!!

Special Thanks to Carol Long, Ann Toledano, Dawn Asher, Ellen Glynn, Marcia Kropp, Rondy, ......Joanne! Great Carot Cake, Lasagna, Home--made Macaroni & Cheese....Ummmm!!!

Special Happy B-Day to Cheryl...........who just turned 16.

Our Man Jim

How does a man get from Tatamy,Pa. (population 982 and 9 miles from the Applachian Trail), to the sea? His father moved 71 miles east to the coast. Here Jim learned to sail. After sailing Chesapeake Bay, Delaware Bay, the New Jersey coast, New York Harbor, The East River and Long Island Sound, he boarded a 1927 , 50' classic wooden schooner and headed south, alternating between the Intercoastal and the sea. 28 boats and 37 years latere, here we all are at HSA.

Organizer of the Big Boy Race.

TZATZIKI

You're off the ocean and through the Inlet and you lay back alittle. Thanos may exit the cabin with a big bowl of this stuff, and peta bread. Greek cucumber dip takes the edge off.

Ingredients:

  • 2 English cucumbers, seeded and grated ( 2nd. smallest grate on a four sided grater). Squeeze the moisture out. Remember: this is Thanos' dip------not Marcella's soup.
  • 1-lb. Plain Greek Yogurt.
  • 8 cloves garlic minced in a garlic press.
  • 1t dill.
  • 1/2 t pepper.
  • 1t salt.
  • 2T Greek virgin olive oil.
  • 2T white vinegar.
Combine all ingredients and serve with eggs, breads or grilled meat.

Rockin At Rock House

Tanner and Brusie took the Mirage 5.5 on the maiden overnighter to Rock House Creek. No wind meant they motored down.

After anchoring, they put a tarp over the boom and settled in:

  • Good friends
  • Food
  • Drink
  • Music from the radio
  • And a glorious sunset.
Mistake #1- getting in the sleeping bag with wet socks (45 degrees). It took two hours to get cozy.

3:30 AM. BOOM! BOOM! BOOM! BOOM!
"They're boarding us!"
"No-they're stealing the engine!"
"We're aground!"
"What the hell was that?"
"Must have been a wake."
"But we never heard a boat."

Next morning they were thankful to Mike for suggesting the 5gal. bucket. And Paul for bringing the bags to go in the bucket. And Red for the incense.

Mistake #2-tried to exit on the Inlet side. Went aground. NO PROBLEM- Thanks to Roger, for the idea of a push pole. A few pushes and they were sailing.

Later, they heard of the logging truck crash on I95 at 3:30 AM.

A Fallen Sailor

It is with deep sorrow that we receive news of the passing of Patricia Stamberski, wife of Michael Stamberski and mother of Rebecca and Maria Stamberski. After months of struggling advanced cancer, today in the early hours of the afternoon, she had her last breathe of life and has reached for the gates of heaven. Our prayers remain with Patty, Michael and their children as they all commence their new journey.

"I am standing upon the seashore. A ship at my side spreads her white sails to the morning breeze and starts for the blue ocean. She is an object of beauty and strength. I stand and watch her until at length she hangs like a speck of white cloud just where the sea and sky come to mingle with each other. Then someone at my side says, "There, she is GONE." Fair winds Patty and God Speed. We will Miss you.
